There was some thought that after I fell through ice into a glacier a day prior, that we'd think a little more before we chose to act. But she had to have a photo of herself standing on an iceberg... Fortunately, it was only a few inches from shore, and we could see to the bottom of the water. What's a travel blog without leading into a dramatic opening, anyway. I'd always said before I left for Iceland, that it and Antarctica were the two places with the highest calling for me. Being in Jökulsárlón felt like both, at the same time. There's something to be said for watching icebergs float freely out into the ocean in front of Europe's largest icecap. But there's also something to be said for being welcomed into the lives of locals you stay with way out in the Icelandic countryside, knocking on their door just before midnight. And the next morning, one of the greatest quotes in two weeks was born when we were being introduced to a baby sheep that we hardly believed was only one day old... "Just smell him."
Enjoy, friends! Lots more to come soon.
