Unless you weren't watching the US election. 

Although, I had my doubts about us experiencing particularly strong auroral activity last night, when for the last 48 hours the magnetic field was boringly, stubbornly, and much too consistently, north. And for the first hour or two, the aurora reflected that perfectly - very faint and very subtle, although certainly still beautiful. And then, the sky exploded - while the magnetic field was still pointed north. The field dipped south, and the northern lights really got spectacular.
