We didn't mean to steal the ice road truckers' thunder. All we wanted were clear skies and the northern lights, so before we knew it, we had driven the Ingraham Trail as far as it went, and took the turn off for the ice road, and when we got there, the ice fog had thinned out, and the heavy cloud that was blanketing Yellowknife was no more. The aurora was gentle, but environment felt like nothing else. And despite our best efforts, we just couldn't... Crack -40°, so we enjoyed our night of silence on the ice road at -39°C.
