There are nights where when you have to go, you just have to go and it can't wait another second.
New year's eve happened to be one of them. It was a little past 6p, and I had just sat down with a bowl of soup for dinner when I brought up some space weather websites to see how the night was looking to shape up. It had already shaped up, and you could just tell there was something really, really good about to happen. Forget dinner, forget dressing properly - it was only -8°, so I may as well have been in shorts - the only thing that mattered was getting out of the city as fast as was humanly possible, and I did, going the speed limit the entire way. Within minutes of getting out onto a lake, the skies exploded. It was one of the best bursts I think I've ever seen. Fitting for the end of a pretty special calendar year.
